Future of Film Podcast · MUBI and Challenging the Streaming Algorithms

"We are not replacing cinema – we are making it more convenient and accessible." Efe Cakarel

Efe Cakarel is the Founder and CEO of MUBI, the pioneering independent film platform that recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Joining Film Disruptors from MUBI’s London offices in Soho, Efe discusses his career, entrepreneurship and how MUBI continues to differentiate itself in an ever-evolving film-consumer landscape.

    About Efe Cakarel

Efe founded MUBI, a curated streaming service, after he discovered that he couldn’t watch ‘In the Mood for Love’ in a café in Tokyo. Previously, Efe was with Goldman Sachs in London and New York, where he worked on IPOs, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity investments. He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, and MBA from Stanford.

Efe ranked 3rd in the 1994 European Math Championship in Geneva, Switzerland. He currently advises Alejo Vidal-Quadras, Vice President of the European Parliament, on Turkey’s accession negotiations with EU. If he were to give you directions, you’d never get lost, and you’d arrive at least 5 minutes early.
